Das Wünscherfüllende Juwel der Edlen Lehre, der Kostbare Schmuck der Befreiung.
The Wishfulfilling Jewel of Noble Teaching, The Precious Ornament of Liberation.
Hier haben wir den Titel des Textes und es ist bereits eine Belehrung für sich. Natürlich ist das letztendliche Ziel unseres Studiums und unserer Praxis die Befreiung (Thar – Freisein). Freiheit von was? Freiheit von der Anspannung und Irritation, die durch Emotionen verursacht wird, und dem Nicht-Verstehen, das durch Unwissenheit verursacht wird. Auf dem Weg der Praxis ist es daher wichtig, diese beiden sogenannten Schleier aufzulösen. Und dieser Zustand der Befreiung schmückt sich mit den Qualitäten der Methoden, die diese Befreiung bewirken.
Aus diesem Grund spricht Gampopa hier von einem Schmuck (rGyan), einem „Schmuck der Befreiung“ also.
Here we have the title of the text and it is already a teaching in itself. Of course, the ultimate goal of our study and practice is liberation (Thar – being free). Freedom from what? Freedom from the tension and irritation caused by emotions and the not-knowing caused by ignorance. It is therefore important on the path of practice to dissolve these two so-called veils. And this state of liberation adorns itself with the qualities of the methods that bring about this liberation. For this reason Gampopa speaks here about an ornament (rGyan), a “Precious Ornament of Liberation” so to spek.
Und was sind diese Methoden, die diese Befreiung bewirken?
Dies ist natürlich das edle Dharma, die edle Lehre von Buddha Shakyamuni. Diese Lehre ist als befreiende Methode wird wiederum mit einem wunscherfüllenden Juwel in Verbindung gebracht. Das wunscherfüllende Juwel ist eine Metapher aus dem asiatischen Kulturraum und steht für einen Gegenstand, in diesem Fall einen Edelstein, der seinem Besitzer jeden Wunsch erfüllt. Der Geschichte zufolge wird dieser Edelstein von sehr mächtigen Nagas (Fabelwesen des Wassers) bewacht und versteckt, und es ist äußerst schwierig und gefährlich, an ihn heranzukommen. Aber wenn man diesen Edelstein erlangt hat, braucht man sich nur etwas zu wünschen, während man diesen Edelstein in der Hand hält, und der Wunsch wird sofort erfüllt.
And what are these methods that bring about this liberation?
This, of course, is the noble dharma, the noble teaching of Buddha Shakyamuni. This teaching, as a liberating method, is in turn associated with a wish-fulfilling jewel. The wish-fulfilling jewel is a metaphor from the Asian culture and stands for an object, in this case a precious stone, which fulfills every wish of the owner. According to the story, this gem is guarded and hidden by very powerful Nagas (mythical creatures of the water) and it is extremely difficult and dangerous to get hold of. But if one has attained this gem, one need only make a wish while holding this gem in one's hand, and the wish will be granted instantly.
Und was ist der einzig wahre Wunsch eines Praktizierenden, der durch dieses wunscherfüllende Juwel des Dharma erfüllt wird?
Dies ist natürlich die vollständige Befreiung von jeglicher Form von Leiden und Unwissenheit, d.h. Buddhaschaft. Und so verbindet sich das erste Wort des Titels – das wunscherfüllende Juwel – mit dem letzten Wort des Titels – Befreiung, und der gesamte Titel verschließt sich zu einem Kreis und wird dadurch zu einer nie-endenden Dynamik der Erleuchtung.
And what is a practitioner's only true wish, which is granted by this wish-fulfilling jewel of the Dharma? This is of course the complete liberation from any form of suffering and ignorance, i.e. Buddhahood. And so, the first word of the title – the wish-fulfilling jewel, connects with the last word of the title – liberation, and the whole title connects itself into a circle and therefore becomes a never-ending Dynamic of Awakening.
Fazit:
Die Schlüsselwörter von heute sind also Befreiung (Thar) und Schmuck (rGyan), zusammen „Schmuck der Befreiung“ (Thar rGyan), was auch der Kurztitel dieses Textes von Gampopa ist. Aus diesem Grund oft als Dhagpo Thar rGyan genannt.
Conclussion:
Therefore, today's key words are Liberation (Thar) and Ornament (rGyan), together “Ornament of Liberation” (Thar rGyan), which is also the shorthand title of this text from Gampopa. For this reason often referred to as Dhagpo Thar rGyan.
